One of the pieces that I picked for my portfolio is my fiction story. My fiction story was about a boy who had troubles with a bully but became friends with him. I had to think like a fiction writer. Fiction writers ask, “What books do I wish existed in the world.” This leads them to invent a character with traits, struggles and actions.

The issue that is important helps them create a character who struggles with that issue. To be a fiction writer you need to know the character’s motivations [longings] and struggles. In order to be a fiction writer you have to create internal and external traits. You also would have to make a story map outline to help create your story. One thing that you need to know is that you have to start with the character and setting of your story [make sure the readers can picture the setting].

In order to make a fiction story you would need to know how to clearly let the reader know what the character wants, and what obstacles stand in the way. You also would need to remember to include dialog that allows the reader to see what the characters are doing. You may also need to write events with small moment after small moment so it leads to the climax or turning point in the story, then after the climax and a few more small moments you start the conclusion that wraps up your story. At the end of your story you must resolve the story so there are no loose ends.

The way I wrote my piece was with thinking of books that I loved to read, write about some issues in the story, and created a bunch of characters. I also used story maps, included some dialog, show don’t tell,, use small moments, make sure there are no loose ends, work on characters and setting, make obstacles in my story, and much more to make my short narrative the best that I can make it. Fiction writers work very hard to make their stories the best that they can be and I hope one day I can be just like them.
